NIGHT SKY

One of the things I would suggest when visiting the National Parks that are in remote locations is to go outside at night time and view the stars. It is amazing when you are away from the city and have a true dark sky the amount of stars you can see. This includes the viewing of the Milky Way. The best time for viewing is also when there is a new moon. The best way to figure this all out is an app called PhotoPills.com You can plan you trip and then use the map in the app for you location to figure out when the best time to view the Milky Way. The pictures below is actually not what you will see as the camera is playing a trick to create these images. I shoot with a 14 mm lens so I can shoot the night sky from 20 to 30 seconds, any longer then this and the stars start having motion blur. The camera is collecting a lot of light data over this period of time so it is not exactly what you will see in the sky. It is sort of like staring at a light with your eyes and the white spot stays in your vision for a period of time. All the Milky Way Photos you see have been adjusted or stacked to get the best image possible.

But the most amazing thing I have seen at night has to be the Northern Lights I saw when on a trip to Denali National Park in September 2019. It truly is a thing to see and can see why people are amazed when it does occur. I have some of those images included in this section. But they do not do it justice as the Northern Lights were shooting way over the tops of our heads and was completely filling the sky and was AMAZING
