Acadia images with some of the coast of Maine included on this page. Easiest way to do this is to fly into Boston and make a week of it driving the coast of Maine. You will take this trip up the coast to Bar Harbor that sits just outside of the park. Acadia is the first National Park that is East of the Mississippi. Acadia became a summer retreat for families such as the Rockefellers, Morgans, Fords, Vanderbilts, Carnegies, and Astors. The Rockfellers built the carriage roads that are still in the park today. Cadillac Mountain in the park is also the first location on the east coast of the USA to see the sun rise in the morning. The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and The Portland Head Lighthouse are two of the most photographed lighthouses in the USA.
